About Us
The Officers’ Spouses’ Club of Fort Drum, NY is made up of military
spouses dedicated to the tradition of the Army while moving towards
its vision of tomorrow. Our members have
proven to be modern day heroes because of the countless hours of
dedicated service and devotion to the military families and
community. Their legacy continues to live on in the spirit they
foster.
Eligible members are the
spouses of active duty commissioned and warrant officers of the
Armed Forces, commissioned or warrant officers, spouses of retired
or deceased commissioned and warrant officers, family members 18
years or older residing in the household of an commissioned or
warrant officer, civilian employees in the grade of GS-07, and
spouses of commissioned and warrant officers of the Reserve
Components and National Guard living in the Fort Drum area. The club year runs from 1
June through 31 May of each year.
The club is governed by a
board of directors that includes an executive board and a general
board. The executive board positions are elected positions voted on
by the general membership at the April luncheon. These officers are
installed at the May luncheon. The general board members are
appointed by the club’s president.
Our governing board meets
once a month to plan and implement a number of activities for the
general membership. Our membership enjoys activities such as an
Annual Welcome in August, Fall Craft & Antique Fair, Tour of Homes,
and a Spring Women's Conference. Also, monthly luncheons bring our members
together to enjoy programs such as a women's fashion show and bingo.
Our members pay annual
dues. These dues help to subsidize the club’s operating expenses.
Each member receives a membership pin, a member’s only directory and
a monthly newsletter called The Drumbeat. Also, our members
may join one of the many social clubs such as bowling, cross-country
skiing, book club, gourmet club, and scrapbooking, to name a
few.
Two major fundraisers are
planned during the year: our Fall Craft & Antique Fair and our
Spring Women's Conference . The proceeds from these events, as well
as the sales from our Ways and Means, are distributed to the
community through welfare and scholarships. Scholarship applications are
accepted annually and recipients of the monies raised are honored at
the last monthly luncheon of the year.
Our “clubhouse” is located
at Bldg. T-604 Nash Blvd. on Fort Drum. Here we house our china and
crystal collection for our members to rent. Also, the building may
be rented by members for activities such as bunko, scrapbooking or FRG meetings. |
